My Story
Hi! I'm Lora, and I've been a member of Curves for almost six years! All I can say is that Curves has changed not only my life, but my family's as well. A little over ten years ago I started putting on some weight. My job was also very sedentary, not to mention it was about a 45 minute drive to and from my office. Then, I became pregnant with my son, which only added to the problem. Once I had him, I just couldn't take the weight off! However, the turning point for me came when my mother went into renal failure and was started on dialysis. She was in her mid 70's, however, never really looked her age. As with all renal failure patients, they set her up with the transplant team to see if she was a candidate for transplant, however, she wasn't a candidate with the reason not being her age, but the fact that she wasn't healthy enough. They told her that they had performed a transplant on a lady that was her age, or maybe older, with the only difference being that the other lady had no other health issues, plus she walked two miles a day. My mother had heart disease with a previous heart attack, high blood pressure, and very high cholesterol and triglycerides. She was also overweight and smoked. At that point, I decided that should I develop the kidney condition that she had, that I would be healthy enough to receive a transplant, that I would the "the other woman." I have never been a dieter, so I wanted to see if just exercising would work for me. I had heard about Curves and set up an appointment and joined my local Curves on July 21, 2003. I, however, had my doubts as I had bought lots of exercise tapes and would work out religiously for a while, but would soon quit. At my initial weigh-in I was at a shocking 183 pounds. Now, six years and 910 workouts later, I am maintaining my weight at around 140 pounds, which means I have lost 43 pounds, not to mention 50+ inches! I went from a size 14/16 to a size 8/10! Yes, I have over the years changed my diet, although I still don't count calories, fat grams, or carbs, but I just make smarter choices, which also means that my family eats healthier also! My husband and 21 year old daughter both workout on a regular basis, and my almost 10 year old son is into every sport there is (very much unlike me as a child). So not only has Curves changed my life, but eventually may end up saving my life! I thank God for my Curves family every day!

"You know if the people at corporate Curves were smart they would pick the top 15 or 20 ladies and do stories about them in the magazine. It would be more relevant to areas they haven't picked members from!"
