My Story
This Amazing Member profile is about two people, myself and my coworker Shannon. When I joined Curves in 2007, I have to say that my head was into it, but my heart wasn't. Winter is always the hardest time for me to exercise and starting a new program right when winter was inching across the Kansas plains...well, let's just say going to Curves once a week was an achievement for me.

Unfortunately, this went on for several months and instead of losing weight, I was gaining. From November 2007 to May 2008 I gained about 35 lbs.

In mid April 2008, my coworker Shannon, approached me about starting a Biggest Loser competition at work. Of course I said no....I wasn't going to step on a scale in front of anyone I worked with....No Way! On May 5th, Shannon came by my desk to tell me it was time to go weigh in. She had paid my entry fee into the Biggest Loser contest and I had no choice.

I fought her on this and decided since 1 month at Curves was the same as the entry fee into our Biggest Loser competition, I convinced Shannon to come with me to Curves over lunch one day and if she liked it, I'd pay for her first month. I also knew that having a buddy to work out with would help me get started and keep me motivated.

Shannon and I started going to Curves at 11 AM during our lunch hour. We would go at least 3 times a week, sometimes 5 or 6 times. We talked about our lunchtime workout to others at work and at one time there were 6 of us going to Curves at lunchtime. All of us in the Biggest Loser competition.

A year later there are 4 of us from work that are still Curves members and working out at lunchtime. Shannon is an amazing member to me because even though when we began this journey on May 5, 2008, she only had approximately 25 pounds to lose while I have about 200 pounds to lose, she has stayed a Curves member with me and kept me motivated.

Oh we have our work weeks where we are busy and only get in to Curves once or twice, but we feel guilty when this happens and get on to one another to do better the next week. On May 5, 2008 I weighed in at 387.6 lbs, my heaviest weight ever. It is a long slow struggle for me to get the weight off, but thanks to the Gardner Kansas Curves, Denise the AMAZING owner, Shannon Knauss the AMAZING member, friend and coworker my current weight is 315.8 and dropping!
