My Story
In January 2007, I finally decided that it was time to get serious about losing weight. I was tired of not being the wife and mother that I wanted to be and was limited in being because of the weight. I also knew that my family was plagued with health problems that were aggravated by being overweight, such as heart problems, diabetes, kidney problems, and cancer. I was 33 years old and weighed 278 pounds. I didn't have energy to play with my children the way I dreamed of doing. I hated looking in the mirror and not being proud of the person looking back at me. I was tired of watching life pass me by. I started counting calories and decided to join my local Curves. I also started walking every day which was a difficult task at first but it got easier. I didn't look at it as being on a "diet", but rather I was making a lifestyle change. No foods were "off limits" to me. I just had to fit it into my daily calories. I was faithful with going to Curves at least three times per week in addition to my daily walking. In the first month I lost over 12 inches and about the same weight. It was such a motivation! In the coming months I continued my journey, and I started to feel such pride in myself. It took me 18 months to lose the weight and reach my goal weight, and by June 2008 I could finally look in the mirror and love the person I saw. I even bought not one but TWO bikinis! I have now been maintaining my 140+ pounds loss for a year, and it feels just as good now as it did then. I take every opportunity to talk to others about their own goals to lose weight, and try to encourage them to take baby steps and they'll meet their own goals in time. I will always be thankful that I made the decision to change my life!
