My Story
What's amazing about my story is how easy, gratifying and inspiring it is to tap into that which is amazing about my fellow Curves members.

You know how a Curves circuit workout is more fun when there's someone working out with you to gab with? I'm one of those gabbers and one of my favorite topics is supporting our soldiers, sailors and airmen serving overseas with care packages.

I love sharing stories about the troops, especially those who take the time to write a thank you note, by email or letter. It's indescribable the sense of humility you feel when someone who is sacrificing his or her life for your freedom, tells you he or she appreciates what YOU did. They make you feel like part of the team, like letting someone know that their sacrifices and those of their families are never taken for granted is the most amazing gift you can give.

Soon, fellow members began bringing in items for me to include in the next shipment. The owner of my Curves set aside a table for people to store those items, with a poster listing the most sought-after items. She fund-raised for my postal charges. Eventually, my amazing gabbing skills had led to a self-propelled project and where I formerly mailed 1 package every 2 or 3 weeks, now I was making almost daily trips to the post office.

One day, an Army soldier showed up at our location with his mother. He had received a care package and was home on leave. He spent some of his precious free time taking the time to say thanks. What a special day that was. Another soldier tracked down the site's phone number and called from Baghdad because he was overwhelmed by our kindness.

Needless to say, I no longer am the only one at my Curves who understands that incredibly humble feeling. I am never surprised by the kindness and good will of people, especially when it involves the terrific ladies at my Curves. But it never ceases to amaze me how much tangible good can be accomplished when you share a good story. At least that's what I tell myself when I get to gabbing.
