My Story
My name is Carla Panettiere and I've lost 37 inches and 72 lbs.

Arriving in Alabama for vacation, a middle aged woman, defeated, broken, embarrassed, overweight, I had totally lost myself. I had no idea I would not be returning home or that my life was about to be completely transformed.

My friend walked into Curves and spoke to the girls to find out about the program, he was encouraged to bring me in. I had never heard of Curves before, but from the first day I walked in my life changed drastically.

From the onset, the staff was supportive and showed excitement. They listened to my story, and just accepted me for who I was. They wanted to know what I wanted to accomplish and we set goals.

My journey started in July 2008 at 232 lbs. taking 11 prescription medications daily. I suffered from chronic back pain, a weak bladder, constant indigestion, headaches, high cholesterol, borderline hypertension and terrible sleeping patterns. I was at the lowest point in my life.

The encouragement I received here from the trainers and the members helped me to stay motivated. You all have touched my heart in so many ways! Every day there is a cheerful, positive atmosphere that permeates the club and members are always being introduced to each other. Its so homey that you actually look forward to coming.

Curves always cheers me on when I get on the scale. Sometimes I think they are more excited than I am. More importantly, they help me understand that its not the number thats important. Its enjoying the journey with people who care about you. In the long run the whole experience is rewarding, and lots of things change, not just your weight.

My life is different now, no more television. I want to keep moving because now I can. Im not embarrassed about myself anymore. Im more confident now than I've ever been. Im organized, and can plan ahead, in my food choices and daily activities. I take time for me, a priority I never had before. Today I take only 3 pills a day, and I look at my chronic pain in a whole new way. I can welcome daily challenges knowing I have friends at Curves who can give me a boost.

Ill never be a "skinny minnie", Im realistic and know Im not perfect. I like my sweets and splurge occasionally without the guilt because the Weight Management Plan taught me how to make healthier choices in all areas of my life.

At MY Curves FAITH is contagious, you can see it in action with the staff and youre encouraged to pass it on. For anyone my story touches, I want you to know my journey was more than worth it. I know exactly who I am, look at me now, I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN! You can do it too!
