My Story
In January 2009, I moved from North Carolina to Vancouver, BC. I had a lot of free time on my hands as I was unemployed, and so the day before I turned 22, I decided to stop in at my local Curves. Id been curious about the idea of a women-only gym ever since my aunt raved about it to me, and my new home had a Curves only 10 minutes away. When I first signed up, I was disappointed to learn that not only did I weigh 168 pounds, I had a body fat percentage of 39%! Im 54 tall, and while I hadnt been happy with my weight since I was about 9, my weight placed me perilously close to the obese category.

I started going to Curves five times a week and counting my calories, and Ive never looked back! I never thought that I could find an exercise program that I would both enjoy and stick to, but Curves has been absolutely wonderful. 5 months later, Ive lost 30 pounds and I have a body fat percentage of 29%!

In moving to Vancouver, I knew very few people here. Going to Curves has become a way to hang out with awesome women, and has been a way to socialize in a city where I knew very few people at the beginning. I dont think of my time at Curves as a chore " instead, I wake up in the morning and think to myself Yay! I get to go to Curves!

Furthermore, my Curves also has a few hula hoops for use after the workout, and when I first started hula hooping, I could only hoop for a couple minutes at a time. Five months later, I am quite proficient at hooping and am starting to practice new tricks, like hooping around my neck, my chest, and my arms!
