My Story
My story

Hi, my name is Monica Oxford. My friend of nearly 26 years was in need of a liver transplant. After a couple members of her family were not found to be matches, I offered to test even though the chances of being compatible were less than that of an actual family member.

At my first meeting with the surgeon, I was told if all my test results during the next six months were good and I was compatible, the best possible thing I could be doing now is eating healthy and exercising to help recover quickly. I wanted to maintain an optimistic attitude that I would be a match. Since actions speak louder than words, I decided to join a local Curves to set my mind in a positive direction.

At Curves, I learned about nutrition and exercise. I noticed an incredible change in my energy level and a decrease in my stress level. The friendly staff was always encouraging and short chats with other members were very welcoming.

To our relief and happiness, I received my final medical clearance and the surgery took place on June 10, 2009 which appropriately happened to be the recipients birthday. We are on our 16th day of recovery and are both doing well. My workouts at Curves helped me attain my physical fitness which my doctors believe attributed to my speedy recovery.

Happily, both of us have received something positive from our journey which will continue to enhance the rest of our lives.
