My Story
If your attitude needs an adjustment and your weight needs a fix, if you are feeling down and out . . . .blue, depressed or lonely, go to Curves and you'll get the lift you need.
My name is Mary Meyer. I have been a member of Curves in Menominee, Michigan since 2001. I had always been physically fit and in pretty good shape. My career was teaching in the area of Physical Education. I taught in Marinette Public Schools for 33 years.
As we get older each year, menopause kicks in, our metabolism slows down and everything starts to fall. You know how your Life's Journey goes . . . . from Spring Chicken to Tough Old Bird! I used to have Saturday Night Fever and now I just Have Saturday Night Hot-Flashes! Yes, I'm over 50 and can still squeeze into a size 10 dress . . . I only get it as far as my navel, but technically I'm still in it! Someone once told me . . . Know how to prevent sagging? Just eat until the wrinkles fill out! With all kidding aside, can anyone relate to any of this? I think we all can . . . as I have said before, Curves is the answer.
When I turned 52 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My life turned upside down and I was in kind of a spiral. Everything was out of control. I had 5 surgeries in 3 years along with 8 months of chemotheragpy. I lost 30 pounds because I was so ill. Later when I recovered, I gained 50 pounds due to the drugs I needed take and drug induced menopause. Additional pounds were gained because I was still eating as I once had before my cancer diagnosis. Also my metabolism had slowed down due to menopause and my age. I was in a real bind . . . so grateful to be alive but feeling very large in my body. I kept buying new clothes and slowly but surely the sizes kept getting bigger. Finally I had enough and decided to take charge and do something about my weight.
Cures is the answer for women . . . . whatever their needs and goals may be: to lose weight, tone muscles, strength training, cardio(aerobic exercise) or just to have plain down to earth fun. Many of the women I have met there have become my friends. They are wonderful people. I love Curves and look forward to going every day.
At this point in my life, because of Curves, I have lost 30 pounds, 30 inches and my cholesterol is back in the normal range of 156. I feel so much better about myself and my clothes certainly fit better. My energy level has also increased.
So . . . . stop feeling down and out, quit spending so many hours a day thinking about your weight . . . instead just spend at least 30 minutes, 3 times a week at the Curves location nearest to you. Amaze yourself and enjoy your health. Just a few days ago when I signed in at Curves, the screen said I had reached 1500 workouts!! So ladies , remember that number . . . 1-877-CURVES 4 U.
