My Story
I was on vacation with my husband and two boys, who were 14 and 9 at the time. We went to one of these caves that had a walking tour through it. When we went to purchase the tickets, I was told that I was too large and would not be able to fit though some of the passage ways in the cave. I told my family to go ahead, that I would wait at one of the picinic tables for them. As I sat there I felt all these emotions. most of all humiliation.
That was when I decided that I had to do something. Things like this were never going to happen to me again.
I decided to get the lap band surgery. You are required to visit your family docotor for six consecutive months and try to lose weight during that time. The first couple of months I did nothing. I was told that I could be refused for surgery if they felt I wasn't trying.
I was told that the "lap band" was to be used as a tool and if you ate right and execrised that you would lose. If not, you could still gain weight.
I had to get my act together. So I joined my local CURVES. When I started I weighed 332# and there was 3 machines I was afraid to use. I couldn't even bend over to tie my sneakers when they came undone while I was on the curcuit! But with the staff and other members I kept trying. I also started the CURVES DIET PLAN.
When it came time for my surgery, I had lost 23# and was very proud of myself.
After recovery from the surgery, I made a pact with myself that I was not going to fail this time. I went to curves three times a week, more if possible. I started losing!! I started toning!! I started to feel healthy!!
I did have some complications with the band, I got and infection which took me away from exercise, but I stayed on the diet. I lost but not as much. The girls who worked at CURVES were great. They would call and ask me how I was doing and say they couldn't wait till I got back.
A year out from my surgery I ha lost 100#. I am still going to CURVES, I have slowed down in my weight lost, 1 to 2 pounds a week, which is healthy and I am keeping toned. I now weigh 201, waiting to make it under the 200 mark, any day now.
I know that I would not have been able to do this without my CURVES. There was a time when we thought the CURVES might close. The owner had family obligations. I was scared. Nothing in my small town came close to what CURVES could offer. Thankfully one of the empolyees was able o purchase CURVES and they never had to close, not even for a day. Hope you can all see me at my goal weight of 130! THANKS CURVES!!
