My Story
I am sixty eight years old and have fought a weight problem all my life. I have many medical problems, had to have a stent about two years ago and have diabetes and thyroid problems as well as arthritis. I had to use the motorized carts at the stores to be able to get around and shop. I bought my own scooter to go places as well.
I have never liked exercise very much, except for bicycling and walking. I had been walking two miles every day for a long time, then got to where I couldn't walk for more than a few feet. I went to an orthopedic doctor and he found I had spinal stenosis. He gave me a series of steroid injections and they lasted a couple of years then I started having problems again. After the stent I got a good deal better but was still limited to the amount of time I was on my feet. Walking was possible again but not without pain and a rather awkward gait.
One day my daughter and I attended an expo in our town and we learned about a community meltdown going on in our area, so we attended a meeting. We joined the meltdown and starting going to Curves to help us lose weight. Two of my daughters joined with me and we really enjoyed the workouts.
As it turned out, my daughters and I and another lady formed a group called the Fab 4 and we won the contest.
We had the largest amount of fat lost of the entire group. But I would have been a winner even if we hadn't won the contest, because I learned a way to make my health so much better and got my life back. I can walk around much better now, and don't have to use a cart in the stores.
I have lost 20 pounds and 30.5 inches going to Curves and have so much fun doing it. I have gained control over my diabetes and keep my sugar level within normal range now. I have been able to reduce my medication since I got control over my disease. I have also gotten a lot more flexible since I have been exercising and just enjoy life a lot more than I have in a long time.
I love Curves and hope to stay with it for many years.
