My Story
On September 15, 2007, I was in a really bad car accident. I had an MRI done; and during the following 1 1/2 years, I went through physical therapy, ijections in my back, and epidurals. A year after my accident, another MRI was taken and actually showed improvement; but my pain was getting increasingly worse. I was still going to Curves and walking my dogs two miles a day with the help of a magnetic back support. I finally went to a neuro surgeon. He did range of motion x-rays with me bending forward, backward, and side to side which showed a lot of instability in my 4th and 5th vertebrae. He was able to fix my back. He fused the 4th and 5th vertebrae of my lower spine and did a bone graft. At three weeks, he said I was better than most people at three months. He said that I could return to Curves (without the back support), walk my dogs, and drive again. I give all the credit to God and Curves and my husband and son. I do not think I could have recovered near as fast if I would not have remained at Curves exercising almost every day till my surgery. It will be six months since my surgery on July 5, 2009, my 4th aniversary with Curves; and my back is doing great. Some advice I would like to give is that MRI's are almost useless with a back injury because you are laying still the whole time, and the doctors are not getting the full picture. If you ever have a back injury or back pain, insist on range of motion x-rays first. They cost a lot less and may be able to tell more of what is going on. I just want to thank the Bellevue, Nebraska Curves and Linda for encouraging me all the way to my recovery.
