My Story
Last summer I had a great disappointment. I accepted a job as a park ranger 2 long years after college graduation. I was so excited to have such a wonderful opportunity to do something I loved! Three days into the job, I had to take a physical test--the same one that all police cadets have to pass to get into police academy. I was in no shape to pass all four of the tests--in fact I only passed two of four. It was a wake-up call for me. I went to school for four and a half years to prepare me for a career and I couldn't succeed at the job because of my physical condition. I felt extremely self-conscious and upset with myself. I made a commitment then to get back into shape and become healthier.

Ever since I graduated high school I have struggled with my weight. I had been very active on the track team, in gym class, and enjoyed exercising after school. College changed all of that. I had two majors and a part-time job that felt a lot more like full-time. I worked out less and less as I worked and studied more and more. In 3 years, I gained over 80 pounds. I tried some crash diets to try to take off the weight and some worked--sort of. Many of the diets were unhealthy, miserable, and hard to follow. As soon as I stopped the diets, all the weight came back, plus more. After I graduated, I slowly tried to become more active. I joined a gym and also started taking yoga classes but I found myself unmotivated. I made excuses not to go to classes, found that my schedule didn't always line up with class times and eventually stopped going. I made an effort to go back but then I got a new job and moved to a new town-- Warren.

I decided that a new job in a new town meant a fresh start for me. I wanted to try something new. I had heard really great things about Curves from friends and decided it would be a perfect fit for me. A short, very effective workout any time of day that *I* get to choose? That's exactly what I was looking for. After I joined, I found out even more great things about the club. The atmosphere is relaxed, feels like a community and it doesn't feel like you're being judged like you sometimes do at a huge gym. The staff is incredible. They are so supportive, friendly, and helpful and always make sure I get the most out of my workout. They know everyone's name and are always available when you need them. The machines are very easy to use and give back as much resistance as you put in. Thirty minutes a day might not seem like a lot, but if you give your best effort you will definitely see results--I have!

I have been going to Curves for just two months and I have already lost 15.75 lbs, 9.25 inches, 3% body fat, and my BMI has gone down 2.20 points. I am not on a special diet. I am just eating less than I used to, watching my calories and making sure I get plenty of vegetables, fruit, and take a multivitamin. I feel so much better about myself and my energy levels are much, much higher. I look forward to my workout and I can ALWAYS work it into my busy schedule. I am so grateful that I found such a wonderful place that is helping me stay on track with my personal goals. Thank you, Curves!
