My Story
High Cholesterol is hereditary in my family. My father had this problem and died from a stroke at the age of 91. Of his eight children, seven are presently on medication to lower their bad cholesterol and one is considered borderline. So it was no real surprise when I began to experience problems with mine.

Most of my life I have been very healthy. In fact when my family physician retired, I did not establish myself with a new doctor because I was going to my gynecologist on an annual basis and at that time cholesterol was checked about every three years. Mine was usually around 190 so there was no real urgent concern. Also, at that time my father and none of my siblings had begun to experience this medical problem.

Ten or more years elapsed in which I went through a divorce and left my home town. I worked at a mountain resort where I had "home cooked meals" every day which were rich and fattening. After two years of working in this place, I met my second husband who loves to travel, eat out, and loves to eat desserts and other very rich foods. Believe me when I say that I was also enjoying the "good life."

Eventually, we moved back to my home town and I re-established myself with a new gynecologist. I requested to have my cholesterol checked as it had been several years since it had been done. While I expected it to be high, I was shocked to learn that it had reached a level of 305. Of course I was recommended to contact my family phycisian about this matter. As I had not established a family phycisian yet, it would be three months before I could get an appointment.

During the three month period, I decided to try to lower my cholesterol. I began to take Curves fish oil gel capsuls. I had been through the six week solution class some months earlier, so I went back to eating more wisely. I also increased my days at Curves each week. When I went to the doctor for my first visit I had lowered my cholesterol to 205 through diet and exercise alone.

Due to my family medical history, my doctor put me on medication. Even so, I continued to monitor what I ate. I reduced the number of desserts I was eating. I began to eat more broiled food and more fish. I continued to take the Curves fish oil capsulsas well. When Curves Smart was brought to my local Curves, I took advantage of it. I began an exercise program of walking 10,000 steps three times a week and 6,000 steps twice a week. When I went back to my doctor after three months passed, I was surprised when he looked at my file and said, "This is amazing!" My cholesterol had dropped to 167.

"Congratulations on your accomplishments. With your life changes and continued success, anything is possible. Keep up the "great work" at Curves. You are also a great "walking" partner. Although I can't keep up with all the walking you do, but I'm trying my best."
