My Story
I first joined Curves in Nov. '04. I had recently lost a good amount of weight by running, and the plan was to maintain at Curves during the winter months. For whatever reason, I did not feel comfortable at Curves and I ran no matter what the weather, so I stopped going to Curves. I suffered an injury in Dec. '05 and had to stop running. Slowly, but surely the weight came back.
I started running again in the spring of '08, but was not able to lose a substantial amount of weight. My joints ached from running and I was carrying alot of weight around. My son was shipping out to Iraq and I wanted the three of us (my son 20, daughter 15, and myself) to run the Boilermaker together. The Boilermaker is a huge race here in Central NY, so we signed up for the 5K. I could not even run the whole race because of my weight, and had to walk part of the way. Not what I had in mind! I ran another 5K in the fall with the same results. I was not losing weight, running was getting too hard and my joints ached all the time. In Feb of this year, I went back to Curves. Nothing had changed there, but I felt like I came home. The staff is VERY supportive and I just love the other women that work out during the time frame I am there. I started out going 6 times/week, then cut back to 5 times/ week, which fit into my schedule. I went on a drastic diet in March with everyone cheering me on! Then I bought the Curves book and went on the diet recommended. To date I have lost 25 lbs. and just about the same amount in inches! I can wear clothing I haven't been able to wear in years, and I can run!! I am currently running 3.5-4 miles a couple times a week and I will be able to run any 5K non-stop. Curves helped me regain my confidence and my energy. My joints no longer ache and there is nothing holding me back from living life! God made me and Curves maintains me! I want to thank all the amazing women at the Curves in Herkimer, NY for all their support and most of all for their friendship. Thank God I did not have to do this by myself! Thanks Herkimer Curves!!!
